Egremont Russet Apple
Egremont Russet is a classic English russet apple from the Victorian era. Is first registered in 1872.
Some other varieties have stripes and spots of russet as in Cox's Orange but Egremont Russet is completely covered with russet that feels like fine sandpaper.
Egremont Russet is a medium-sized apple. The meat seems quite dry and become drier during storage. Both the flavor and flesh reminiscent of a firm, sweet pear.
It is a good eating apple, and useful in savory salads. A specialty.
The tree is resistant to scab.
